sump pump is a pump used to remove water that has accumulated in a water-collecting sump basin, commonly found in the basements of homes and other buildings, or in other locations where water must be removed like a crawlspace or outside basins.  Sump pumps send water away from a location to any place where it is no longer problematic, (sometimes called “pumping to daylight”). What Sump Pump should I have in My home ?

1/3 or 1/2 horsepower Blue Angel Submersible Sump Pump/ Vertical float Switch. This kind of pump is the most common one you will find in most homes. There really practical for residential applications. Install in simple and neat, there’s one wire for power coming out of the basin lid. Another great feature with these pumps and a main reason we love to use them is their extremely quiet pumps. In the Pocono’s you have many homes that are air bnb  and what’s worse than to have your customers complaining about a noisy sump pump, you won’t have that hear.

Blue Angel 1/2 HP

Automatic battery backup system for ultimate security and peace of mind.

Backup will assist primary pump if excessive amounts of water are entering the sump pit. Here in the Pocono’s there’s all types of terrains and each home has its own water table height. Sometimes one pump is not enough to handle the amount of water your crawlspace or basements get. A great solution is either a combo backup where there are twin pumps in the basin or a little more on the economical side you can install a smaller backup like this example here which can pump anywhere from 1000 to 2700 gallons per hr depending on size

What is a Sump Basin?

Another issue we come across a lot is improper install of sump pumps from either when the home was built or a DYI. If the sump pump in your home looks like this or is installed in a 5-gallon bucket, it’s not the proper way to install a sump pump. In-order for a sump pump to properly drain the water from your home, in most applications you have to have a perforated basin that’s at least 18″x 18″ deep if not deeper in most cases. With a shallow bucket you’re not able to collect the right amount of water to be pumped out, you will not be able to lower your water table and your sump will be going off constantly during a rainstorm. Weve seen basins so shallow where the float is sticking up above the floor which means the pump will never turn on because the water level cannot get high enough to activate the pump.  Perforated basin with gravel also protects the life of the pump and filters the water to a degree. With a proper lid you don’t have an open water source and a hole in the floor where debris could potentially affect the float causing a flood.
